Venice

Had a fantastic time in Venice. Weather was perfect (in fact probably too hot!) and we explored many little back alleys. Came across some really nice churches and just enjoyed 'getting lost' away from the tourists. Did the touristy things too but weren't as impressed with them as just wandering along canals and just enjoying venice.

View from out hotel - which was across the grand canal from St Marks square. So glad we stayed there rather than on the mainland; venice changes as the sun sets and most tourists head off and you get to see a little more of the 'real' venice.

And looking the other way out of our hotel window.

Most towers in Venice start to lean as the foundations aren't as solid as they really need to be. It's not until you notice one leaning tower that you start looking at all others and indeed find that they are all on more or less of a lean!

Took this photo as we thought of Rex - the doors didn't seem to have a common size, obviously must be custom made rather than bought 'off the shelf'.

Boat builders yard that we came across.
